Forever Education is supporting a unique independent Special Educational Needs (SEN) group based in London, which provides therapeutic education for children and young people with special educational and neurodiverse learning needs. The school is seeking a passionate, dynamic, and experienced Primary Lead Teacher to join its specialist primary school service based in Acton, West London, offering a therapeutic learning environment for children aged 7-12 years.

As the Primary Lead Teacher, you will be responsible for leading and quality assuring a high-quality, nurturing learning programme for pupils who may have been excluded from mainstream education or are currently non-attenders. Central to the role is championing pupils' interests and well-being, ensuring that every child is supported in an environment that is safe, secure, and child-focused. The Primary Lead Teacher holds overall responsibility for maintaining high standards of both educational and pastoral provision within their class and across the Primary cohort.

The Primary Lead Teacher designs and delivers a bespoke curriculum that enables children with a variety of complex needs, including neurodiversity, autism, and missed developmental milestones, to access learning that is ambitious, engaging, and appropriate to their individual needs. Alongside academic progress, the role prioritises the development of social, emotional, and communication skills, preparing pupils for future challenges beyond school. The Primary Lead Teacher also oversees behaviour management, ensuring consistency and a nurturing approach that promotes positive relationships and a calm learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and delivery of a bespoke curriculum that enables primary aged pupils with a range of complex needs to access the National Curriculum, whilst supporting their social, emotional and communication needs and preparing them for future life opportunities and challenges.
  • Build and sustain strong, supportive partnerships with families, ensuring they are fully engaged and guided throughout their child's journey.
  • Provide mentoring, guidance, and expertise to support staff to engage primary-aged pupils with neurodiverse identities, complex learning needs and autism.
  • Undertake home visits to make assessments, develop planning and required resources and build working relationships with pupils and their families.
  • Work collaboratively with the SENCo to ensure the timely and accurate completion of all statutory documentation.
  • Monitor community learning lessons, ensuring they are pupil-focused, creative, and delivered according to an agreed timetable.
  • Facilitate interventions identified within IEPs and Behaviour Plans, ensuring they are implemented effectively and consistently.
  • Use positive reinforcement as a core strategy for behaviour management, supporting staff to implement predictable and consistent reward systems.

Person specification / Qualifications

  • QTS
  • Proven experience as an outstanding practitioner, with evidence of successful teaching in the primary phase (4-11).
  • Proven impact on learning outcomes for pupils with neurodiversity and a range of needs.
  • Designing or leading targeted interventions and EHCP provision.
  • Working knowledge of current ASD research, sensory processing and communication approaches (e.g. SCERTS, TEACCH, PECS, AAC).
  • Ability to differentiate EYFS/National Curriculum content.
  • Working collaboratively with parents, therapists and outside agencies.
  • Line-managing or mentoring teaching/learning assistants.
