We are looking for an experienced Payroll Manager to join our Pay & Reward team, which delivers payroll and pension services for Forestry and Land Scotland and Scottish Forestry, supporting around 1,300 staff. This is a full-time hybrid role, with the expectation of attending either our Edinburgh or Inverness office ideally once a week.

About the role

In this role, the successful candidate will lead and develop the Payroll team, ensuring accurate input into our HR and payroll system (iTrent by MHR). They will be responsible for maintaining compliance with payroll legislation, safeguarding payroll integrity, and ensuring timely reconciliations and submissions.

The role also involves liaising with key external partners including MHR, HMRC, and Civil Service Pensions, and providing expert advice on pay, tax, National Insurance, pensions, and deductions. Staying ahead of legislative changes and advising on their impact will be a key part of the position.

We’re seeking someone with a strong track record in managing payroll teams, a solid understanding of payroll and pension legislation, and hands-on experience with payroll systems—ideally iTrent. The ideal candidate will also bring excellent Excel skills, a sharp eye for detail, and the confidence to lead and communicate effectively.
