We're looking for Craftsperson Modern Apprentices to join our Land Management team. This is a fantastic opportunity to start a career in forestry while gaining hands-on experience, training, and a recognised qualification. Our operational teams work across Scotland, managing and caring for forests and land from coast to coast.

As a Craftsperson Apprentice, you'll work predominantly outdoors, supporting a wide range of practical forestry and stewardship activities. You'll learn on the job alongside experienced colleagues, developing skills in forest management, estate maintenance, and visitor site upkeep, while working towards your apprenticeship qualification. You'll be involved in tasks such as:

  • Assisting with tree planting
  • Erecting fencing
  • Basic forest maintenance
  • Litter-picking
  • Helping to maintain footpaths, signage, and car parks

You will also support wider forestry, environmental, and visitor services teams when required. You'll attend training courses, team meetings, and work closely with your colleagues to deliver the annual programme of work.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys practical, outdoor work in all weathers and variable terrain. You don't need previous forestry qualifications — just a genuine interest in working outdoors, a positive attitude to health and safety, and the ability to work well both independently and as part of a team. A natural curiosity about the environment and how forestry works will support your development, alongside a willingness to learn new skills and undertake training to achieve Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) Level 2 in Trees and Timber. A full manual UK driving licence is required for the role.

Important information for applicants: Please submit a CV and a supporting statement answering the following questions:

  • Why are you interested in this Modern Apprenticeship, and how would it benefit your personal and professional development?
  • What personal qualities or behaviours would you bring to the team to help you succeed in this position?
  • This role involves working safely, supporting others, and taking responsibility for tasks in an outdoor environment. Please provide a personal or workplace example detailing a time in which you demonstrated this.
  • Do you have a full manual UK driving licence?

Please reference the Essential and Desirable criteria under Experience in the Success Profile and give examples where possible.
