Scope

The incumbent is responsible for the strategic coordination, governance, and implementation of FSC’s social media communications programme. Social media serves as a primary vehicle for advancing FSC’s narratives, strengthening reputation, and supporting organisational priorities through coherent, credible, and engaging communication. The role operates at programme level and combines strategic planning, campaign development, editorial and creative oversight, and hands‑on implementation. Within this, the incumbent ensures that multimedia content (e.g. video, visual assets, and emerging formats) is effectively integrated into social media to enhance storytelling, engagement, and accessibility. The incumbent provides guidance and support to FSC’s regional offices, network representatives, and partners to ensure consistent standards, quality, and alignment across decentralised social media accounts.

Main Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic redesign and ongoing development of FSC’s social media communications programme, transforming it into a coherent, narrative-driven and campaign-oriented system.
  • Define and continuously refine the role of social media within FSC’s communications strategy, ensuring it supports organisational objectives, strengthens credibility, and builds sustained influence.
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee integrated social media campaigns aligned with organisational priorities, key moments, and strategic narratives.
  • Ensure a structured, proactive approach to content planning, reducing reactive posting and enabling long‑term narrative building.

Campaigns, Planning & Performance

  • Develop and manage campaign frameworks, including objectives, messaging, content mix, timelines, and evaluation approaches.
  • Lead social media planning cycles (editorial calendars, thematic series, campaign bursts).
  • Define and monitor performance indicators (engagement, reach, conversion, narrative traction), using insights to continuously improve effectiveness.
  • Translate data and analytics into actionable recommendations for content, campaigns, and channel strategy.

Content & Creative Direction

  • Provide creative direction for social media content, ensuring outputs are engaging, accessible, and aligned with FSC’s institutional voice.
  • Design and steward structured content formats and storytelling approaches that support consistency and recognition across platforms.
  • Work closely with subject‑matter experts to translate complex content into compelling social media outputs.

Multimedia Integration

  • Ensure effective use of multimedia formats (e.g. video, graphics, animation) to strengthen social media storytelling and campaign performance.
  • Guide the development of multimedia assets specifically for social media use, ensuring they are platform‑appropriate and audience‑focused.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external providers to support the production of multimedia content where needed.
  • Promote efficient reuse and adaptation of multimedia assets across channels and campaigns.

Governance & Network Alignment

  • Establish and maintain programme-level frameworks, standards, and governance for social media across FSC.
  • Develop and maintain guidelines, templates, and best‑practice resources (including for multimedia use within social media).
  • Act as a strategic advisor to regional offices and network partners on social media planning, campaigns, and execution.
  • Ensure global consistency while allowing for regional adaptation.
  • Introduce and manage digital and AI‑enabled tools to support social media planning, content development, and performance analysis.
  • Explore new social formats and platform features (e.g. short‑form video, interactive formats) to maintain relevance and reach.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

Experience

  • Several years of professional experience in social media or digital communications at mid to senior level.
  • Strong experience in campaign planning, execution, and evaluation.
  • Experience working with analytics and performance measurement in social media.
  • Exposure to multimedia content creation or coordination (not necessarily hands‑on production).
  • At least four years managing a team.
  • At least five years experience dealing with or managing creative agencies.

Skills

  • Strong strategic and operational understanding of social media ecosystems.
  • Proven ability to design and deliver impactful campaigns.
  • Strong analytical capability and ability to translate data into decisions.
  • Good understanding of how multimedia enhances social media performance (video, visuals, formats).
  • Ability to manage content pipelines across multiple contributors and stakeholders.
  • Strong editorial judgement and storytelling ability.
  • Strong fluency in English.
