About the role

Forest of Dean District Council is seeking a forward-thinking and collaborative Waste and Environmental Partnerships Manager to lead the strategic relationship with our waste and recycling service provider, Ubico Ltd. This key role will oversee the delivery and continuous improvement of waste collection, recycling, street cleansing, grounds maintenance, and related environmental services. You will be the council's subject matter lead on the waste hierarchy, advising on policy, innovation, and best practice to reduce environmental impact and improve service efficiency.

You will build and maintain strong partnerships with Ubico, other local authorities, and stakeholders to drive innovation and deliver high-quality services for our residents. Representing the council at regional levels, you'll identify opportunities for collaboration and contribute to shaping service strategy and policy. Working closely with elected members and senior leadership, you'll ensure alignment with the council's vision and financial goals, including contributing to key projects like depot reviews and delivering savings for the council's medium-term financial strategy.

You will need?

  • To be educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant profession
  • Substantial (5 years plus) post qualification experience in a relevant field / specialism
  • Evidence of strong strategic relationship management, service delivery oversight and collaborative working
  • Excellent problem solving and negotiation skills and an ability to develop and maintain effective professional and collaborative relationships that result in strong partnerships
  • Detailed, in-depth understanding of the waste hierarchy and successful implementation of the framework to minimise environmental impact, along with an understanding oof environmental and sustainability principles to support service delivery
  • Ability to manage resources to achieve plans, objectives and priorities by demonstrating financial awareness, utilising and leading available resources and driving projects to achieve results
