We have an exciting opportunity for a Forest Ranger to join our team at Thorpe Forest. Be a part of making special escapes in one of the UK’s most peaceful forest locations, developing your skills while ensuring our cabins are beautifully prepared for every guest. Our cabins offer a natural escape beside the banks of the River Thet, near the Norfolk and Suffolk borders. Choose a cabin beneath the tranquil canopy of the forest or opt for a more open aspect in the picturesque woodland glade.
About the Forest Ranger Role
Our Forest Rangers are the heart and soul of the woodland experience. They interpret, protect and share nature with every guest. From uncovering hidden wildlife to sparking curiosity in young explorers, Rangers transform a simple forest stay into something unforgettable. Open all year round, the Ranger will work within the Forest Retreat team and report to the Forest Retreat Manager. The aim is to inspire guests to experience and respect British forests by championing ethical and ecological values, ensuring every guest experiences that special Forest Feeling from the moment they arrive. Deliver exceptional customer service in line with our brand standards, helping guests deepen their connection with nature during their stay.
Forest Ranger Responsibilities
- Deliver a varied programme of guided and self‑led events for children, adults and families, inspired by the forest environment.
- Create safe, enjoyable routes for activities and continually monitor them for any issues.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local partners including Forestry England, Forestry and Land Scotland, Natural Resources Wales, Woodland Trust, National Park Authorities, and local businesses, charities and trusts.
- Develop team knowledge and promote environmental awareness across the location.
- Encourage safe enjoyment of wildlife and habitats, such as dogs on leads, protecting ground‑nesting birds, respecting fungi and plant life.
- Carry out minor pruning and vegetation control, liaising with the Operations Manager to ensure seasonal grounds maintenance supports local flora and fauna.
- Confidently lead groups and deliver engaging talks that inspire guests of all ages.

What Are We Looking For?

- A relevant qualification in an environmentally‑based subject
- Walking Leader or professional outdoor leadership qualification
- Experience of public speaking and leading groups
- Outdoor First Aid certificate and Police Vetting (PVG) certificate
- A full UK driving licence (desirable due to location)
- A genuine passion for woodland conservation and guest engagement
