An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Practice Nurse to join Forest Health Care on a 12-month fixed-term contract covering maternity leave. We are seeking a dynamic, motivated, and flexible team player to become part of our dedicated team.
Hours: Up to 20 hours per week, with the option to work up to full time, spread across 3-4 days. Flexibility is essential, including availability to work until 6pm on some days. Applications for two part-time positions will also be considered. This role is subject to an enhanced DBS check.
Main duties of the job
The Practice Nurse will be responsible for attending to patients in a timely and professional manner, ensuring they receive appropriate care from a healthcare professional. This includes addressing both their immediate medical concerns and providing advice on ongoing medical and nursing needs. The majority of patients will have pre-booked appointments, though there may be occasions when extra or emergency patients need to be seen. Any patients presenting with complex or urgent issues should be discussed with the designated GP.

Our 3 partner practice has a patient population of 12000 patients and a staff of 3 further salaried GPs, 3 ANPs, a Practice Paramedic plus a full complement of nurses, HCAs, dispensers, receptionists and admin staff all working alongside a growing number of additional PCN roles. Based in the Forest of Dean, our Cinderford surgery serves the surrounding town and rural communities. In spacious, environmentally friendly new premises, we occupy the first purpose-built, dementia-friendly surgery in the UK. Patients can also access a full range of services at our branch sites in the local village of Ruardean & Westbury-on-Severn.
Job responsibilities
- CLINICAL: To provide health education advice, assessment, screening, monitoring and treatment services which include:
- Dietary advice
- Urinalysis
- Health screening
- Ear syringing
- Wound care
- ECG
- Child and adult immunisations and vaccinations
- Long term condition management
- Contraception
- Removal of sutures / clips
- Assisting with the fitting of IUCD / IUS
- First registration checks / health surveillance / general health advice
- Assisting with minor operative procedures in the treatment room.
Qualifications and Experience: Qualified RGN, continuous membership of NMC. Previous experience in practice nursing and proven worth in the skills required.
Experience: Good interpersonal skills with patients and staff. Experienced in working within a computerised environment. Able to carry out domiciliary visits and patient care. Understanding of the NHS and the current issues affecting general practice and primary care.
Disposition: Flexible approach to work. Team player. Able to work on own initiative with minimal supervision.
