Group Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Advisor

Location: Between our two sites at Hartlebury (Forest Garden) and Clows Top (M&M Timber)

Department: Group Compliance

Reporting to: Group Head of Compliance

Hours: Mon-Fri 08:30am-17:00pm

This isn't just a desk-based H&S role; we want someone who is out on the floor making a difference. We're looking for a people-focused Health & Safety professional who genuinely cares about how work is done, not just whether a form has been completed. This role is about visibility, trust and influence. You'll be out on the shop floor, in the yards, working alongside our teams, listening to how work really happens and helping us continuously improve our health & safety culture in a practical, collaborative and people-centred way. If you believe great H&S is built through relationships, conversations and trust, not just policies and spreadsheets, we'd love to hear from you.

The Role

What You'll Actually Be Doing:

  • Along with the other Group HSE Advisor, you will be the day-to-day H&S presence on site, empowered to take ownership and make a real difference.
  • Building strong, positive working relationships with operators, team leaders, supervisors and managers across site.
  • Acting as a visible, approachable and trusted H&S partner on the shop floor.
  • Championing a positive, proportionate and common-sense safety culture.
  • Supporting and coaching teams rather than policing or enforcing from a distance.
  • Investigating incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions with curiosity and fairness, focusing on learning, not blame.
  • Delivering engaging toolbox talks, safety briefs and informal on the floor conversations.
  • Helping teams understand why controls exist, not just what they are.
  • Carrying out audits, inspections and spot checks that genuinely improve standards.
  • Using safety performance data to identify trends and drive meaningful improvement.
  • Supporting occupational health, wellbeing and site safety initiatives.
  • Supporting environmental and quality activities where appropriate.

How You'll Work

  • On the shop floor, not hidden behind a desk.
  • Working with people, not just paperwork.
  • Challenging unsafe behaviour confidently but respectfully.
  • Building credibility through fairness, consistency and visibility.
  • Using online SHEQ systems, not spreadsheets or paper-based tracking.

The Kind of Person We're Looking For

We can teach systems and processes. We can't teach the right attitude. We're looking for someone who:

  • Genuinely cares about people going home safe.
  • Is approachable and respected by shop-floor teams.
  • Is comfortable engaging at all levels of the business.
  • Can influence without relying on job title.
  • Understand that culture change takes time and trust.
  • Is confident using online H&S / SHEQ systems and other modern methods.
  • Avoids unnecessary overcomplication and focuses on what works for all involved.

Essential Experience & Skills

  • NEBOSH General Certificate in Health & Safety or similar (as a minimum).
  • Experience in a Health & Safety role within manufacturing, logistics or similar environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of UK health & safety legislation.
  • Confidence delivering face-to-face H&S engagement.
  • Able to embed within teams, forming effective working relationships and offering practical support.
  • Comfortable working alongside operational teams to support and influence safe behaviours.
  • Comfortable using digital / online safety management systems.
  • Ability to turn safety data into meaningful actions.

Why Join Us?

  • A business that genuinely cares about safety and culture, not just compliance.
  • A role with real autonomy, visibility and influence – your voice will matter.
  • Strong support from an experienced Group Compliance team, without micromanagement.
  • The opportunity to make a genuine, lasting difference to how people work every day.
  • Ongoing training and development to help you grow professionally and personally.
