We are looking to appoint a part-time (0.5/0.6) Speech and Language Therapist who is enthusiastic, keen to learn, innovative and enjoys working with pupils in a school environment. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a dedicated, pupil-centred and forward-thinking staff team.

We are seeking a Speech and Language Therapist who thrives on working in a challenging but immensely rewarding environment, who truly wants to make a difference in the lives of all pupils in our school, from 3 -11 years of age. The role includes assessment, diagnosis, and management of pupils with complex speech, language, and communication needs. A significant proportion of these pupils will be bilingual.

Duties include the delivery of speech and language therapy assessments and interventions ensuring that programmes are integral to pupils’ education and development. You will have sound knowledge and use of a wide range of speech and language therapy methods and interventions for pupils across school with a range of communication needs, including pupils with behaviour needs, social, emotional and mental health needs, autism, moderate/severe/profound learning needs and/or disabilities, and other special educational needs.

You will work in close partnership with pupils, the Senior Leadership Team, the SENDCo, staff, parents and professionals to provide support at a universal, targeted and Therapist level for pupils and their families. Opportunities to deliver training and workshops to staff and parents will also be integral to this post.

Our Speech and Language Therapist will provide both direct and indirect support to groups of pupils including vocabulary programmes delivered in the classroom and support with subject specific language.

Speech and Language Therapy is centred around the following areas:

  • Inferential reasoning and higher-level language
  • Social communication and pragmatic language
  • Friendships and social problem solving

  • Articulation
  • Executive function skills

The role will include:

  • Delivering group and 1:1 interventions for pupils with a range of speech, language and communication needs.
  • Carrying out comprehensive assessments and review assessments for pupils, including report writing.
  • Contributing towards Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) review meetings through setting SMART targets.
  • Working collaboratively with teaching and support staff to provide a communication friendly learning environment.

Essential Requirements

  • A recognised professional degree qualification in Speech and Language Therapy.
  • Extensive and relevant experience post registration.
  • HCPC and RCSLT membership.
  • Well-established knowledge about developmental speech and language disorders and communication disorders associated with complex conditions and emotional/behavioural disorders.
  • Experience working in an educational setting with young people with social communication disorders (desirable).
