This Assistant Site Manager opportunity is with one of the South West’s most respected and successful residential developers, delivering high-quality new build housing developments across Somerset, Devon and the wider region. They have built an outstanding reputation for quality, customer satisfaction and employee development, with a strong track record of promoting from within. Due to continued growth they are looking to appoint an ambitious Assistant Site Manager to join a flagship residential development in the Taunton area. The project consists of approximately 80 traditional build and timber frame homes and is currently in the early stages of construction, providing an excellent opportunity to become involved from the ground up. This role offers genuine progression. You will initially work as the number two on site, supporting an experienced Senior Site Manager, with the intention of developing into a Site Manager position as the project progresses.
Assistant Site Manager - The Role
- Supporting the day-to-day management of a live residential housing development
- Assisting with the coordination of subcontractors, suppliers and direct labour
- Monitoring quality standards across traditional build and timber frame plots
- Supporting health and safety management and site compliance
- Helping to ensure build programmes and construction targets are achieved
- Assisting with plot inspections and quality control procedures
- Managing site logistics and material deliveries
- Supporting customer care and defect management processes
- Attending site meetings and liaising with internal departments
- Maintaining site records, reports and progress updates
- Working closely with the Senior Site Manager to gain exposure to full site leadership responsibilities
- Developing towards independently managing sections of the project and eventually progressing into a Site Manager position
Assistant Site Manager - The Person
- Previous experience as an Assistant Site Manager within new build housing
- Experience working on volume housing or residential developments
- Knowledge of traditional build and/or timber frame construction
- Strong organisational and communication skills
- Ambitious and keen to progress into a Site Manager role
- Able to lead subcontractors and maintain high standards on site
- SMSTS or SSSTS qualification
- CSCS Card
- First Aid qualification desirable
- Full UK driving licence
