This Quantity Surveyor opportunity is with a successful and growing construction contractor delivering high-quality refurbishment and construction projects across government, commercial and public sector clients. Projects typically range from £100,000 to £1.5 million and are often fast-paced, high-specification schemes delivered within 6-8 week programmes. The business has built an excellent reputation for quality, repeat work and client relationships, creating a strong pipeline of projects across South Wales, the South West and London.

Due to continued growth and a strong workload, they are looking to appoint an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join their established commercial team.

As Quantity Surveyor, you will take ownership of the commercial management of multiple refurbishment and construction projects from initial pricing through to final account. Working closely with Directors, operational teams and clients, you will be involved throughout the project lifecycle, providing commercial support from tender stage through to project completion. This is an excellent opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor who enjoys working on varied projects, managing multiple schemes simultaneously and having genuine autonomy within their role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Pricing and estimating refurbishment and construction projects
  • Preparing cost plans, budgets and commercial reports
  • Managing valuations, applications for payment and variations
  • Producing accurate monthly cost/value reconciliations
  • Managing subcontract procurement and subcontract accounts
  • Negotiating and agreeing final accounts
  • Monitoring project profitability and commercial performance
  • Preparing cashflow forecasts and financial reporting
  • Providing commercial support to operational teams
  • Identifying opportunities to maximise project margins
  • Managing commercial correspondence and contractual matters
  • Supporting project delivery teams throughout the project lifecycle

The Person

  • At least 5 years’ experience as a Quantity Surveyor within the construction industry
  • Previous experience working for a main contractor
  • Experience delivering refurbishment, fit out, maintenance or small works projects
  • Good understanding of construction contracts and commercial processes
  • Commercially aware with strong negotiation skills
  • Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Comfortable working within a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • A proactive and organised approach to work
  • Based within commuting distance of Newport
