We build AI technology for the metals industries. Our products work reliably in high-volume production environments 24/7, making billions of dollars worth of decisions. Because we work at the intersection of metals industries and AI, we solve problems involving manufacturing operations, physics and chemistry, software engineering, AI, and product design.
Our teams spend a lot of time on site, with the customer, understanding their problems first hand and iterating quickly to solve them. We try to work with minimal process and permission, but ample support and collaboration. We rarely have a scheduled meeting, but we all work in the office, discussions occur continuously throughout the day, and no request for help goes unanswered for more than a few minutes. Features get shipped to production every day. Many are designed, developed, and shipped on the customer's site, without a central planning process.
For all roles, we are looking for people with the following attributes:
- Exceptional ability. Whether in work, school, side projects, or elsewhere, you will have demonstrated exceptional ability. We are open minded about the exact form this takes. Some examples we look for:
- You have played a key role in an early stage startup
- You have won hackathons, math, or physics competitions
- You have an impressive side project, like a popular blog or open source library.
Role
As a Deployment Strategist, you will be broadly responsible for successfully deploying our technology in customer sites, in collaboration with forward deployed engineers and others. If the forward deployed engineer is like being the CTO of a deployment, being a deployment strategist is like being the CEO. You will:
- Understand the problems of potential new customers. During discovery calls and site visits with executives and engineers, you will build a deep understanding of their industrial process and most important problems.
- Work closely with forward deployed engineers to propose solutions. You will create and present demos, data analysis, and business case calculations in support of that solution.
- Work closely with forward deployed engineers to successfully implement the solution by rapidly iterating with the customers in production. You will work closely with the customer's engineers, IT teams, and management. You will do things like train users, do demos, observe usage, gather feedback, present results, and design improvements.
- Identify and enter new markets, industries, or potential customers for our technology.
The above activities involve building a deep understanding of the customer in terms of data, physics, manufacturing operations, and business considerations. You will often be the first person who has comprehensively mapped the customer's data sources and data pipelines; the flow of value and physical quantities through their process; and the decisions made to operate the business.
We are open to a wide range of backgrounds, but some examples we expect to see are:
- Software engineers or forward deployed engineers
- Process engineers and operations managers from manufacturing
- Entrepreneurs and management consultants
- Technical sales and solutions architects
You will have:
- Some programming experience. Your job might not involve writing a lot of code, but you should understand programming and data. You may have been a professional software engineer, or you have just written modelling code in an academic environment, or simple scripts in a business environment.
- At least a bachelor's degree or equivalent knowledge or experience in physics, engineering, maths, or similar field.
- Interest and taste in product design.
You will also:
- Prefer mostly work in the office, colocated with your team, rather than from home.
- Be excited to travel 25% - 75% of the time.

Email careers@scrapchef.ai. Please include - in your CV or in the body of the email - a list of 3-5 things you have done that you are proud of and that are relevant to the attributes we are looking for. Where possible, please include links to your work, such as GitHub, YouTube, or portfolios.
We will do two or more telephone screenings. At least one will be with the CEO.
You will work on something real with the team.
