Exceptional Stability Engineer required to join Foreship UK, a leader in ship design and naval architecture consulting, to support its continued growth strategy. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring the successful delivery of complex and high-quality architectural stability analysis. You will support feasibility studies, newbuild and conversion designs, class submissions, regulatory compliance and onboard/yard activities for passenger vessels, ferries, yachts, other large special-prone vessels and naval ships. Based out of our Southampton (HQ), Leatherhead, Chippenham or Manchester offices, Foreship UK operates a hybrid working model, though you will be required to travel or shipboard across the UK and internationally occasionally.
Responsibilities:
- You will apply strong naval architectural foundations to ensure vessels meet the highest standards of safety, performance and regulatory compliance.
- You will work closely with multi-disciplinary colleagues ensuring that stability considerations are integrated into vessel design and project decision making.
- Develop and update stability booklets, loading manuals, deadweight surveys, lightship checks and weight tracking.
- Perform intact and damage stability calculations in accordance with IMO (SOLAS, 2008 IS Code), class society rules (DNV, LR, ABS, BV) and flag requirements.
- Prepare class/flag submissions (incl. cross-flooding, watertight integrity, escape routes, evacuation implications) and respond to comments.
- Provide stability input to design teams during feasibility, concept and basic design phases.
- Participate in dry-dock and onboard surveys, performing measurements, inclining test support, and validation of as-built conditions following Foreship’s site procedures, safety guidance and confidentiality rules.
- Produce clear technical reports, booklets, regulatory matrices, and decision support documentation for clients and authorities.
- Present stability assessments and advise shipyards/owners on compliance risks, margins, and operational limitations.
