Exceptional Stability Engineer required to join Foreship UK, a leader in ship design and naval architecture consulting, to support its continued growth strategy. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring the successful delivery of complex and high-quality architectural stability analysis. You will support feasibility studies, newbuild and conversion designs, class submissions, regulatory compliance and onboard/yard activities for passenger vessels, ferries, yachts, other large special purpose vessels and naval ships. Based out of our Southampton (HQ), Leatherhead, Chippenham or Manchester offices, Foreship UK operates a hybrid working model, though you will be required to travel or shipboard across the UK and internationally occasionally.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and update stability booklets, loading manuals, deadweight surveys, lightship checks and weight tracking.
  • Perform intact and damage stability calculations in accordance with IMO (SOLAS, 2008 IS Code), class society rules (DNV, LR, ABS, BV) and flag requirements.
  • Prepare class/flag submissions (incl. cross‑flooding, watertight integrity, escape routes, evacuation implications) and respond to comments.
  • Provide stability input to design teams during feasibility, concept and basic design phases.
  • Participate in dry‑dock and onboard surveys, performing measurements, inclining test support, and validation of as‑built conditions following Foreship’s site procedures, safety guidance and confidentiality rules.
  • Produce clear technical reports, booklets, regulatory matrices, and decision support documentation for clients and authorities.
  • Present stability assessments and advise shipyards/owners on compliance risks, margins, and operational limitations.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • BEng/MEng/MSc in Naval Architecture (or equivalent).
  • 3-5 years professional experience in stability analysis for marine vessels (i.e. passenger, ferry, yacht, other large structured commercial or naval vessels).
  • Strong proficiency in stability tools (e.g., NAPA Loading/NAPA Stability or similar).
  • Familiarity with IMO codes (SOLAS, Load Line, IS Code), probabilistic damage stability, and class rule application.
  • Ability to produce clear, client ready documentation and communicate results effectively.
  • Prepared to travel for occasional surveys, trials, and yard support.
  • You must be a British citizen or have the right to work in the UK without employer sponsorship.
