Role Purpose
The Infrastructure Manager is responsible for maintaining the stability, security, and performance of the Group's IT infrastructure across all sites, supporting the delivery of the Group's IT strategy. This is a hands‑on technical role, providing end-to-end support from first‑line troubleshooting to advanced engineering, and delivering infrastructure improvements and technical change. The role ensures that day‑to‑day operations and project activities follow established priorities, standards, and governance.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for the hands‑on technical operation, maintenance, and administration of servers, networks, storage, identity, and other core infrastructure services.
- Deliver all tiers of technical support as required, providing hands‑on technical troubleshooting and resolution of incidents and service requests.
- Lead and deliver infrastructure and systems improvements, carrying out the hands‑on technical work required to implement changes and enhancements.
- Implement hardware and software upgrades following agreed plans, ensuring changes are controlled, documented, and aligned with business needs.
- Monitor system performance, capacity, and availability, escalating risks or required decisions where appropriate.
- Support and administer Microsoft 365, Azure/AWS, and other cloud or SaaS platforms as adopted, in accordance with established configurations and policies.
- Implement and maintain disaster recovery, backup, and security capabilities in line with business requirements and IT governance.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation, including configuration records, procedures, and 'How To' guides.
- Ensure systems and processes comply with internal policies, industry standards, and accreditation requirements.
- Engage with internal stakeholders, external suppliers, and partners to support operational and project outcomes.
- Provide on-site or remote technical support as required, including travel to Group locations when necessary.
- Provide out‑of‑hours support for critical incidents as required.
- Keep up to date with emerging technologies and evolving infrastructure practices, recommending improvements aligned with organisational needs.
Knowledge / Experience / Technical Skills
Essential
- Proven experience in a Senior Infrastructure, Systems Administrator, or Engineer role with a strong hands‑on technical focus.
- Strong hands‑on experience with Microsoft 365, Windows Server, virtualisation platforms, and cloud SaaS solutions.
- Solid understanding of networking technologies, including routing, switching, firewalls, VPNs, and Wi‑Fi.
- Experience supporting and maintaining servers, storage, backup systems, and core infrastructure services.
- Ability to deliver all tiers of technical support as required and act as a technical escalation point.
- Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose complex technical issues.
- Experience supporting business applications such as case management systems or specialist software.
- Experience working in multi‑site organisations.
- Ability to prioritise effectively in a fast‑moving environment and adapt to changing business needs.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, suppliers, and stakeholders.
- Willingness to travel to sites when required (potentially at short notice).
- Willingness to provide out‑of‑hours support for critical incidents when required.
- Ability to work within established strategies, standards, and governance frameworks.
Desirable
- Experience with security frameworks, compliance standards, or accreditation processes (Cyber Essentials Plus, ISO 17025).
- Knowledge of scripting or automation (PowerShell, Bash, Python).
- Exposure to Azure/AWS, cloud networking, identity governance, or zero‑trust security models.
- Experience with mobile device management (Intune) and endpoint security tools.
- Familiarity with project management methodologies or ITIL practices.
Security Clearance
Due to the highly sensitive nature of forensic casework: Security clearance is required. Applicants must have five years' continuous UK residency. Criminal convictions may prevent clearance from being granted.
