Job Description
We lead the UK’s diplomatic, development and consular work around the world. We employ around 17,000 staff in our global network of 281 offices worldwide. Our UK-based staff work in King Charles Street in London, Abercrombie House in East Kilbride and in Milton Keynes.
Your role with us
Our Cyber, Information and Technology Threats Directorate has been set up to understand and counter the full range of risks and dangers to the UK’s values and safety. Specifically, it works to identify and tackle information threats to national security, contest hostile state narratives, support and influence targeted audiences, and deter foreign information manipulation and influence actors. We also respond to cyber threats and shape the international rules of the road relating to cyberspace, and when you join us in this role you will work on risk management best practice, improve coordination, and help manage some of the biggest threats to programming.
Day to day you will advise on the risks identified in the information threats portfolio, analyse and report on trends and exposure, develop a clear framework for supporting and managing risk, and lead on the development of the messaging, vision and support required by the Portfolio team. You will have a wide range of additional responsibilities – these include delivering risk management training to your colleagues, producing guidance notes for our embassies, supporting our response to any incidents that occur, and helping to ensure minimum standards while driving innovation in the work we do.
Who we’re looking for
With a solid understanding of the principles of risk management and a proven track record of working on risk management in government, you will be capable of understanding complex issues quickly, and possess the skills to make good decisions based on benefit against risk. An inspirational communicator and collaborator, and able to explain about risk at all levels and across different constituencies, we also expect you to be ready to influence and encourage teams to make positive changes and adaptions to the way they work.
It is important that you have the ability to contribute to multiple projects at the same time, researching, benchmarking, scoping, designing, implementing and evaluating the delivery of projects to tight deadlines and the highest standards. Highly proactive and with a strong focus on continuous improvement, simplifying processes and improving efficiency, we will also look for a track record of making solid risk judgements based on an understanding of the complex geo and socio-political environments we operate in.
You must be a British citizen at the time of your application, and you will be required to attain Developed Vetting (DV) security clearance.
