We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer. In this role, you will design precision-engineered, bespoke electromechanical assemblies for complex capital equipment, whilst being able to manage all facets of the project life as part of a project team. You will be involved across the full project lifecycle—from concept and detailed design through to delivery—giving you real ownership and visibility of your work. This position would suit a Mechanical Design Engineer with a strong background in bespoke capital equipment, excellent 3D CAD capability, and good commercial awareness. You will be a confident, self-motivated engineer who enjoys taking responsibility, collaborating closely with colleagues, and contributing to innovative engineering solutions within a forward-thinking, supportive team.
What You’ll Do
- 3D design work on a project-by-project basis for both standard and custom machines
- Carrying out and completing design changes following the internal process as required
- Working on design solutions for the sales team
- Compiling and amending Bill of Materials in both modelling and MRP / ERP systems
- Ensuring all project documentation is complete and available for other departments as required
- Carry out such other tasks as may from time to time be requested, within the competence of the jobholder
Essential What you’ll bring
- 3D & 2D CAD design experience using an industry standard platform (in-house system Autodesk Inventor)
- Ability to design efficiently and cost effectively
- Experience designing complex assemblies and sub-assemblies
- Experience with tolerances and fits vital
- Experience with a multitude of different design areas - press tools, pneumatics, fabrications, machined components, rotating elements, sensors, actuators, conveyors, drive mechanisms, gears
- Use or experience of AutoDesk Vault
- Experience of design change processes DFMA and value engineering
