Fordham University London is seeking to appoint an adjunct professor for a level three course in Theology for the Fall/Autumn semester – starting on 7 September 2026 and concluding on 18 December with a study break 26-30 October, 2026. In this course, students will study how cultural differences and beliefs shape interpretations of the meaning of Jesus Christ. The course begins, therefore, in the first through fourth centuries, exploring the origin of Christology, the Jewish, Hellenistic, Greek, and Roman context that were formative for the life of Jesus, the New Testament, and early doctrinal statements.
It will help students weave together theological, political, and cultural considerations regarding the figure of Jesus in these and other geographical and cultural contexts. By the end of the course students will be expected to have knowledge about the historical and theological environment during the lifetime of Jesus Christ; be able to understand fundamental approaches to “culture” and “humanity”; know basic themes in world religions and contemporary issues in the western world and their influence when it comes to the interpretation of the figure of Christ; encounter different forms of Christian Spirituality and their dependence on cultural backgrounds; have an awareness of the importance of Christ in contemporary cultural artefacts and works such as literature and art; and gain knowledge about approaches and methods in systematic theology.
Successful candidates must be experienced and effective teachers, able to cater for the diverse student body and engage students in the subject matter so that they are fully prepared for their journey through the bachelor degree. Teaching is in weekly three hour blocks. In Fall 2026, one section will be offered and it will be taught on Tuesday mornings (10am-1pm).
Main Duties
- Teaching Christ in World Cultures
- Preparation of teaching materials for the course
- Providing updated syllabus and course pack/reader details by the required deadline
- Providing academic advising either face-to-face or by email
- Arranging/accompanying students on co-curricular trips, and inviting guest speakers where appropriate
- Setting and administering examinations and other assessments – setting examination questions, invigilation and marking when required
- Attendance at academic staff meetings (up to two per semester)
Required
- Master’s degree or equivalent professional experience in a related field
- Relevant teaching experience in higher education and proven teaching effectiveness
- Excellent communication skills and responsive to students and the administration
Desirable
- PhD in a relevant field (or nearing completion)
- Previous experience of teaching within US higher education
- Research experience, publications and interests in the subject area

Salary
Starting salary £4,434.56 per section plus pension contribution if eligible. (based upon 2025-2026 rates. 2026-2027 rates to be determined). The position will remain open until filled.
