This role places the Senior Project Engineer at the centre of a major, business‑defining rail project that will shape the organisation’s next phase of growth. You’ll take full ownership of engineering delivery across the entire lifecycle, acting as the key interface between design, production, and the customer to ensure solutions are robust, compliant, and delivered to specification. Key Responsibilities

  • Engineering Delivery Leadership: Own engineering output across assigned projects or work packages, ensuring safe, timely, and compliant delivery.
  • Technical Coordination: Act as the central link between design, production, and customer engineering teams.
  • Lifecycle Ownership: Manage engineering activities from concept through build, test, validation, and final delivery.
  • Documentation & Compliance: Produce and review technical reports, risk assessments, and engineering documentation.
  • Problem Solving: Resolve engineering and production issues quickly and effectively to maintain project momentum.
  • Technical Governance: Ensure solutions meet regulatory, safety, and customer standards.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Communicate clearly with internal teams, suppliers, and customer representatives.

Ideal Senior Project Engineer

  • Experienced: Proven background in rail or rolling stock engineering, with strong understanding of systems such as bogies, braking, or mechanical/electrical assemblies.
  • Technically Strong: Confident interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Delivery Focused: Demonstrable track record managing engineering delivery across complex projects.
  • Qualified: Degree or HND in Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Problem Solver: Able to react quickly to production and engineering challenges.
  • Clear Communicator: Comfortable working across design offices, shop‑floor teams, and customer stakeholders.
  • Organised & Proactive: Capable of managing multiple priorities and technical interfaces.
  • Hands‑On: Willing to engage directly with production issues and practical engineering tasks.
