Materials Controller

Salary: £29,500 per annum
Hours: Mon-Fri 39 hours (can be flexible with start and finish times)

Ford & Stanley are proud to be supporting a leading rail organisation in the recruitment of an experienced Materials Controller to join their team at the Leeds Vehicle Maintenance Facility (VMF).

Reporting to the Stores Manager, the successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day operation of the stores function, ensuring materials are managed efficiently and are readily available to support maintenance activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage goods-in processes, ensuring materials are received, checked and stored correctly.
  • Raise material requisitions and prepare components for shipment to overhaul suppliers.
  • Load and unload deliveries safely and efficiently.
  • Conduct regular stock counts and inventory checks.
  • Issue materials to operational teams as required.
  • Raise and expedite purchase orders to maintain material availability.
  • Monitor material usage and stock levels across the site.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping to promote a safe and efficient working environment.
  • Liaise with the Stores Manager and wider production teams to support operational requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with all internal procedures, policies and safety standards.

About You

The ideal candidate will possess

  • A strong commitment to safe working practices.
  • Excellent planning, organisational and prioritisation skills.
  • Knowledge of materials control, logistics and purchase order processes.
  • A minimum of two years' experience in a Materials Controller, Stores Controller, Logistics Coordinator or similar role.
  • A good understanding of procurement and purchasing procedures.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • A proactive approach with the ability to work independently and use initiative.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively at all levels.
  • Experience working to tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • An understanding of budgets and cost control principles.

Essential Requirements

  • Valid Counterbalance Forklift Truck licence.
  • Full UK Driving Licence (maximum 6 penalty points).
  • Ability to work flexibly to support a 24/7 operational environment.

Desirable

  • Telehandler operating experience.
  • Overhead crane operating experience.
