The Role

We are looking for a skilled Shift Technician to ensure our vehicles are maintained to the highest standards, supporting safe, compliant, and efficient operations across our network. This is a hands-on role involving the inspection, maintenance, and repair of a fleet of buses, coaches, and vans, ensuring full compliance with all company and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair company vehicles
  • Ensure compliance with Company, Department for Transport, and DVSA standards
  • Carry out fault diagnosis using modern diagnostic equipment
  • Resolve mechanical and technical issues efficiently and independently
  • Conduct road testing (subject to licence)
  • Safely use and manage tools, equipment, and materials
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and compliance records
  • Take ownership of personal tools and equipment
  • Stay up to date with technical developments and support continuous improvement
  • Adhere to all Health & Safety policies and safe working practices
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, contractors, and stakeholders
  • Represent the company professionally at all times

About You

Essential:

  • City & Guilds Level 3 / NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Proven experience in HGV or PCV vehicle maintenance
  • Strong diagnostic and fault-finding ability
  • Knowledge of DVSA and Department for Transport standards
  • Understanding of Health & Safety and risk assessment practices
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
  • Good communication skills
  • Full UK manual driving licence
  • Own hand tools

Desirable:

  • PCV licence (or willingness to obtain)
  • Experience with bus bodywork
  • Automotive electrical knowledge
  • IOSH or equivalent Health & Safety qualification
  • Experience using vehicle diagnostic systems
