An exciting opportunity for skilled Mechanical and Electrical Technicians to join a close-knit team at a Modern depot in Edinburgh. In this permanent role, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing rolling stock—rail vehicles—using both mechanical and electrical expertise.

Contract Type: Permanent
Shifts: Rotating shifts including days, nights, and weekends. Flexibility is essential.
Role & Responsibilities:
- Mechanical and electrical repairs, including stripping and re-fitting components
- Maintenance of underframe and engine components
- Electrical testing and fault diagnosis
- Scheduled vehicle checks and examinations
- Ensuring all work aligns with production timelines and safety standards
The Ideal Candidate:
We are looking for someone with hands-on experience in vehicle maintenance, who thrives in a dynamic, shift-based environment. You will be confident in fault finding and capable of working across both mechanical and electrical systems.
Essential Requirements:
- NVQ/SVQ Level 3 (or higher) in an engineering discipline
- Proven experience in engine and unit maintenance
- Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems
- Full UK driving licence
- Adaptable and flexible with a proactive approach
- Ability to interpret technical documentation (e.g., Vehicle Maintenance Instructions)
- Excellent time management and organisational skills
- Clear and effective communication skills
Desirable Skills:
- Experience in fault diagnosis using a variety of diagnostic tools
- Ability to confidently read and interpret electrical schematics
- Electrically biased or strong electrical appreciation
- Background in the armed forces or experience working with rolling stock
