The Opportunity
Ford & Stanley Talent Services are partnering with a leading UK rail organisation seeking a Senior HSE Manager to join their leadership team during an exciting period of transformation. This is a brand-new position to provide dedicated Health, Safety and Environmental leadership across its southern operations. You will have a genuine opportunity to build something from scratch, take ownership, influence strategy, culture and operational performance across a safety-critical environment.
The Candidate
You will be an experienced HSE professional with a proven track record of leading health, safety and environmental initiatives within rail or a similar, highly regulated, safety-critical environment. You will possess the credibility and communication skills required to influence stakeholders at all levels, from senior leadership through to operational teams, whilst maintaining a pragmatic and solutions-focused approach to safety management.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Health, Safety and Environmental activities across the southern region.
- Develop and implement HSE strategies aligned with business objectives.
- Ensure compliance with rail industry standards, legislation and company policies.
- Drive behavioural safety initiatives and promote a positive safety culture.
- Conduct and oversee investigations into incidents, accidents and near misses.
- Lead risk assessment activities and support operational teams in implementing effective controls.
- Monitor HSE performance, analyse trends and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Provide expert guidance and coaching to managers and operational personnel.
- Develop, review and maintain HSE policies, procedures and management systems.
- Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, regulatory bodies and clients.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across operational and leadership functions.
Essential Criteria
- Proven experience in a Health, Safety & Environmental leadership position.
- Rail industry experience with a strong understanding of UK rail safety legislation.
- Experience operating within a regulated and safety-critical environment.
- Experience developing, implementing and improving HSE management systems, policies and procedures.
- Demonstrable experience conducting incident investigations, root cause analysis and risk assessments.
- Strong understanding of HSE legislation and compliance requirements.
- NEBOSH Diploma.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel throughout the southern region as required.
Desirable Criteria
- ISO 45001 / ISO14001 Auditor qualification.
- Experience supporting organisational change and cultural transformation initiatives.
