Location: Sheffield, South Yorkshire (Hybrid Working Available)

Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 per annum

The Opportunity

Our client is continuing to grow, driven by an expanding pipeline of complex, bespoke engineering projects across a range of technically demanding industries. To support this growth, they are looking for an experienced EC&I Hardware Engineer to strengthen their engineering team. This is an opportunity to work in a collaborative, project-driven environment where no two projects are the same. Unlike highly repetitive manufacturing environments, their work is varied and challenging, allowing engineers to contribute throughout the full project lifecycle. You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to develop tailored engineering solutions from concept through to manufacture, commissioning, and customer support.

The environment is fast-paced and delivery-focused, with priorities evolving as customer requirements change. As a result, they are seeking adaptable engineers who enjoy solving real-world technical challenges, managing multiple projects, and engaging with both customers and internal stakeholders.

The Role

As an EC&I Hardware Engineer, you will play a key role in the design and development of electrical and control systems for highly engineered projects. Working alongside Functional Safety and Automation Engineers, you will help translate operational and safety requirements into practical, compliant hardware solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create electrical schematics and panel designs
  • Produce EC&I engineering documentation
  • Design control system architectures
  • Support compliance and technical assurance activities
  • Review designs against relevant engineering standards
  • Work across multiple projects simultaneously
  • Support project delivery from concept through to manufacture and commissioning
  • Provide technical support during commissioning and customer-facing activities as required

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience within EC&I / Electrical Hardware Design
  • Ability to design electrical systems and produce detailed schematics
  • Strong technical problem-solving skills
  • HNC, HND or higher qualification in a relevant engineering discipline

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience reviewing and assuring engineering designs and documentation
  • Exposure to safety-critical industries such as Nuclear, Defence, Energy, Process industries

Working Arrangements

  • Hybrid working available, with flexibility to work from home 1–2 days per week
  • Travel and site work will vary depending on project requirements and project lifecycle stages
  • Occasional UK-wide travel for commissioning activities and customer support

Base Location: Sheffield, South Yorkshire (S9 area)
