The Opportunity

Are you a seasoned Mechanical Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced production environment? A leading name in the rail industry is looking for a Production Engineer to join their newly expanded Derby facility. This is a high-impact role where you can truly "own the outcome." Responsibilities:

  • Provide lead engineering support for bogie and wagon overhaul activities, acting as the technical "go-to" for the shop floor.
  • Manually develop and update complex Bills of Materials (BOMs) and manage part data within the ERP system (Sage).
  • Produce, interpret, and update high-quality technical documentation and maintenance instructions for internal and customer use.
  • Manage and resolve technical queries from customers, ensuring solutions are robust and formally closed out.
  • Conduct vehicle inspections, sign off technical packs, and lead tooling design reviews to drive production efficiency.

The Candidate:

We are looking for a quality-focused Mechanical Engineer (HND/Degree qualified or equivalent experience) with a strong technical foundation. You must have a deep understanding of heavy mechanical systems (nuts, bolts, torque tightening, etc.) and a background in rail, specifically bogie systems. You should be comfortable hitting the ground running, mentoring junior staff, and communicating effectively with external customers. A proactive approach to tracking queries and a desire to work in a busy, growing environment are essential for success in this role.

Location: Derby (5/5 On-site)

Salary: Circa Β£50,000 + Flexible Working, Electric Car Scheme, 33 Days Holiday, and Professional Chartership Support.
