An exciting opportunity has arisen with one of the UK’s leading rolling stock businesses to join their team as a Production & Quality Engineer. With their overhaul engineering function transitioning in-house, our client has commissioned the build of a state-of-the-art overhaul facility which will be the first of its kind for their business.
The role is highly autonomous with them responsible for supporting the overhaul of various rolling stock assets while ensuring safety, efficiency and quality targets are met. In the early project phase, they will define facility layouts, specify equipment and develop production procedures. Once the initial setup is complete, the focus shifts to continuous improvement and operational optimisation.
Key responsibilities:
- The Production & Quality Engineer is responsible for managing production activities to meet targets while ensuring compliance with regulations.
- Critically reviewing equipment productivity during commissioning, conducting demonstrations to identify process improvements and continuously refining production programs for efficiency and quality.
- Assessing depot design and layout, forecasting material and service needs and providing technical support for production and maintenance operations.
Candidate Essentials:
- Production & Quality Engineering Experience – Preferably in the railway industry, working with heavy equipment like lathes, wheelset presses, and welding.
- Strong Planning & Organizational Skills – Proven ability to manage tasks efficiently.
- Technical Procedure Expertise – Skilled in analysing and writing documentation.
- Problem-Solving Methodologies – Familiarity with tools like 5W2H and 5 Whys.
- Lean Manufacturing & Six Sigma – Experience in process optimization is highly desirable.
- Technical Proficiency – PC literate, with the ability to quickly adapt to new technologies and software.
Qualifications:
- Level 6 Engineering Degree or higher; will consider HNC/D (level 4/5) in Engineering with strong and relevant experience.
