The Opportunity

Ford and Stanley are looking for a Fleet Engineer to lead reliability growth initiatives and customer-driven modifications across key rolling stock fleets.

You’ll be at the heart of technical excellence - developing cost-effective solutions, improving processes, and driving performance improvements that make a real difference to passengers and the wider rail network.

Contract Scope: Fleet Engineer

The Fleet Engineer will act as a technical authority and key liaison between the manufacturer and operator, ensuring smooth operational performance and compliance of the fleet. This role focuses on providing technical support to the production department, reviewing and analysing fleet performance data, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. The Fleet Engineer will play a pivotal role in stakeholder communication, ensuring technical issues are resolved promptly and operational targets are met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary technical resource for the production department, assisting with troubleshooting and resolving fleet-related issues.
  • Lead reliability initiatives by identifying, developing and implementing reliability growth strategies using techniques including data analysis.
  • Review and interpret fleet performance data to identify trends, diagnose problems, and recommend improvements for reliability and efficiency.
  • Support initiatives to enhance fleet performance, reduce downtime, and optimise maintenance strategies.
  • Lead technical investigations, produce root cause analysis reports, and provide structured recommendations.
  • Develop specifications for modifications and improvements to rolling stock.

Essential Criteria:

  • Minimum of a HNC / HND qualification in Electrical Engineering or a similar discipline.
  • Experience leading technical investigations on rolling stock vehicles.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
