An exciting opportunity has arisen with one of the UK’s leading rolling stock businesses to join their team as an Engineering Manager. With their overhaul engineering function transitioning in-house, our client has commissioned the build of a state-of-the-art overhaul facility which will be the first of its kind for their business.

During the setup phase of this facility, the Engineering Manager will contribute to the overall design, equipment specification, and process development. Post-launch, the focus will shift to continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Key responsibilities:

  • The Engineering Manager will be responsible for all technical aspects of the overhaul facility, covering the maintenance of key asset systems like bogies, wheelsets, and HVAC.
  • The role focuses on efficiency, quality and performance, ensuring that all operations align with set KPIs.

This position requires an experienced engineering professional who can lead a technical team, oversee engineering processes, and collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders.

Candidate Essentials:

  • Extensive engineering experience, ideally within the rail industry and working with heavy equipment.
  • Strong performance management skills, with expertise in planning and control.
  • Technical proficiency, including reviewing and analysing procedures.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma, with familiarity in maintenance methodologies.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and adaptability to new systems and platforms.

Qualifications:

  • Level 6 Engineering Degree or higher; will consider HNC/D (level 4/5) in Engineering with strong and relevant experience.
