The Opportunity

Our client, a global leader in railway system design, manufacturing, and maintenance, is seeking a Continuous Improvement Engineer to join their team in Newport, Wales. This is an exciting chance to drive significant change and enhance operational performance. You\’ll be a key player on the shop floor, influencing the site\’s operational culture and preparing the team for major upcoming projects. This is a hands‑on role that requires strong collaboration across departments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coach teams on effective root cause analysis.
  • Implement and maintain the Tier Accountability Process across the factory.
  • Conduct Value Stream Mapping to identify and drive production improvements.
  • Train and support team leaders and staff in new CI methodologies and tools.
  • Proactively identify and lead improvement projects to boost operational performance.

The Candidate

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in a manufacturing environment and a demonstrated passion for continuous improvement. You should be a proactive problem-solver who can lead and influence others, ready to make a tangible impact.

Essential Criteria

  • An engineering degree or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Solid experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage with both technicians and senior management.
  • A proven interest in and exposure to continuous improvement.
  • The ability to lead, influence, and coach others.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience with CI methodologies (e.g., Lean, Kaizen, Six Sigma), though practical experience is prioritised over formal certification.
  • A background in a similar CI Engineer role isn\’t required; a hands‑on approach is what we value most.
  • Multilingual or international experience is a plus.

Location

Newport, Wales, with some potential for travel.
