The Compliance and Controls Specialist is responsible for managing all risk and control activity within the First Line of Defence. The role works closely with governance, data protection, and risk oversight teams to ensure the organisation meets regulatory, corporate compliance, and industry requirements. The position also oversees compliance-related processes for the UK Dealer Network.
Responsibilities
- Assess identified risks and elevate to senior risk and governance meetings where required
- Maintain the organisation’s risk register and risk and control assessments
- Support monitoring of customer complaints, vulnerable customer cases, and Dealer conduct issues
- Coordinate the annual controls testing cycle, control documentation, asset logs, and related processes
- Manage requirements for financial services trade association memberships
- Coordinate annual regulatory and records-management submissions
- Communicate procedural or policy changes and ensure timely, compliant implementation across the business
- Lead audit responses and corrective actions for key operational functions
- Oversee changes in the Dealer Network (terminations, acquisitions, mergers, new sites) to ensure smooth transitions
- Maintain, update, and issue UK Dealer Agreements and related documentation in collaboration with Sales and Legal teams
- Manage Dealer and user onboarding into operational systems
- Oversee performance, training, and development requirements for team members and Dealers, including industry accreditation
Qualifications
Essential
- Strong understanding of risk management, compliance, and internal control frameworks
- Knowledge of UK regulations, the UK Automotive sector, and the automotive finance environment
- Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving capability
- Ability to plan ahead, manage priorities, and operate independently
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- High attention to detail and strong quality mindset
- Ability to challenge existing processes and influence improvements
- Experience working with operational processes and systems within a finance or regulated environment
- Strong MS Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Desirable
- Experience in sales or operations
- Previous supervisory or team leader experience
- Experience collaborating with manufacturer or national sales colleagues
- Experience using data manipulation tools (e.g., Alteryx) or the ability to learn new systems quickly
