Main duties of the job

This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of a broad and varied management portfolio without an incumbent Practice Manager currently in post.

The successful candidate will play a central role in reviewing, strengthening and developing systems, processes and operational arrangements across the practice.

Supported by engaged GP Partners, established outsourced payroll, HR, bookkeeping and Health & Safety services, and strong relationships across the PCN and wider NHS system, the postholder will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the future direction of the organisation.

As part of the practice's ongoing development, the Practice Business Manager will also help shape the future management structure of the practice, including participation in the recruitment, induction and development of a new Operations Manager.

This role is ideally suited to an experienced Practice Manager, Business Manager or senior healthcare leader who enjoys strategic planning, financial management, governance, organisational development and leading positive change.

About us

Ford Medical Practice has provided NHS General Medical Services to patients across Litherland, Netherton, Thornton, Seaforth, Bootle and Crosby since 1962.

We provide care to approximately 5,800 patients and have a team of 17 staff led by two GP Partners.

Our team includes 3 Salaried GPs, a Practice Nurse, a Trainee Nursing Associate, a Healthcare Assistant, 2 Medical Secretaries and 7 Reception and Administration staff.

The practice moved to its current site in 1984, offering excellent facilities and convenient transport links, just 20 minutes from Liverpool and 10 minutes from the M57 and M58.

We are proud to be a training practice, supporting the education and development of undergraduate and postgraduate learners, including medical students, trainee GPs and members of the wider primary care workforce.

  • Strategic Leadership
  • Support GP Partners in delivering the practice vision, business plan and strategic objectives.
  • Identify opportunities for service development, innovation and growth.
  • Lead organisational change and improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor NHS policy developments and advise Partners on implications.
  • Lead financial planning and budget management.
  • Monitor practice income and expenditure.
  • Ensure effective financial controls and reporting.
  • Maximise income through contracts, enhanced services and reimbursement schemes.
  • Liaise with accountants regarding year-end accounts and taxation matters.

  • Maintain compliance with CQC and NHS contractual requirements.
  • Oversee complaints management, significant events and risk management.

Person Specification

Experience

  • Significant experience in a senior management or leadership role.
  • Experience of financial management, budget setting and financial reporting.
  • Experience of leading and managing staff.
  • Experience of organisational development and service improvement.
  • Experience of developing and implementing policies, procedures and governance arrangements.
  • Experience of managing multiple priorities within a complex environment.
  • Experience of working with confidential and sensitive information.
  • Experience within General Practice, Primary Care or the NHS.
  • Experience of CQC compliance and quality assurance frameworks.
  • Knowledge of General Medical Services (GMS) contracts and primary care funding streams.
  • Experience of working with GP Partners, Boards, Committees or senior stakeholders.
  • Experience of business planning and strategic development.
  • Experience of managing change programmes.

Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • A recognised management, leadership, business administration, finance or HR qualification or equivalent senior management experience.
  • ILM Level 5 or above in Leadership and Management.
  • Diploma or Degree in Business Management, Healthcare Management, Public Sector Management or similar discipline.
  • Chartered Management Institute (CMI) qualification.
  • Finance qualification (e. g. AAT, ACCA, CIMA part-qualified or equivalent).
