The Product Manager is responsible for the technical ownership, lifecycle management and production support of one or more of Forcys' Sonar product families. Acting as the Product Authority, the role ensures that products are successfully transitioned from development into manufacture and continue to meet customer, operational and business requirements throughout their service life. The Product Manager provides technical leadership across production, customer support, engineering change, product improvement and future product evolution, ensuring the product remains reliable, manufacturable, supportable and commercially competitive.

Working closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, Service and Business Development, the Product Manager will drive continuous product improvement, oversee technical governance, support production and customer operations, and define the long-term product roadmap. The Product Manager will represent the product internally and externally, supporting bids, customer engagement, demonstrations, trials and long-term technology strategy while ensuring product development follows Forcys' engineering and quality processes. This is an on-site only position, based at our Blackbushe facility.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Product Ownership
    • Own the product throughout its operational lifecycle.
    • Maintain overall technical authority for product performance, capability and configuration.
    • Balance customer requirements, operational support, manufacturing capability and commercial objectives.
  • Product Development
    • Develop and maintain the technical roadmap for the sonar portfolio.
    • Identify future capability enhancements and technology opportunities.
    • Ensure compatibility with navigation, autonomy and mission management systems.
  • Production Support
    • Provide technical leadership to Manufacturing throughout production.
    • Support transition of new products from development into manufacture.
    • Resolve complex production issues affecting quality, cost or delivery.
    • Lead investigations into production failures and recurring technical issues.
    • Approve engineering changes impacting production.
    • Ensure production documentation remains accurate and controlled.
    • Support supplier technical queries relating to product manufacture.
  • Sustaining Engineering
    • Monitor field performance and identify opportunities to improve reliability.
    • Lead obsolescence management activities.
    • Maintain product configuration and baseline control.
    • Oversee product verification, validation and qualification activities.
    • Coordinate factory testing, integration testing and sea trials.
  • Customer & Operational Support
    • Act as the senior technical point of contact for internal and external customers.
    • Support installation, commissioning and sea trials where required.
    • Analyse operational issues and determine root causes.
    • Support technical discussions with customers, partners and end users.
  • Business Support
    • Support Business Development during customer engagements and bid activities.
    • Provide technical input into proposals and customer solutions.
    • Assist with product positioning and competitive analysis.

Candidate Competencies and Experience

Essential

  • Degree qualified in Engineering/Physics or equivalent.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD (Inventor).
  • Significant experience developing and supporting sonar or underwater acoustic products.
  • Extensive experience supporting products in production and operational service.
  • Experience transitioning products from development into manufacture.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing teams with technically complex products.
  • Proven experience managing engineering changes and product configuration.
  • Experience investigating and resolving production or field failures.
  • Customer-facing technical leadership experience.
  • Experience working within defence or high-reliability engineering environments.
  • Experience defining product roadmaps and managing technology evolution.

Desirable

  • Experience and understanding of forward looking or intruder detection sonar systems.
  • Experience in autonomous or remotely operated systems.
  • Understanding of defence standards and military qualification.

Core Company Responsibilities

  • To actively contribute to the Company's continuous improvement process through presentation of corrective actions, suggestions or initiatives focussed on increasing efficiency, productivity, customer satisfaction and employee morale throughout Forcys.
  • To keep up to date with Company organisation and structure, technology products, applications and customers, through attendance on training events, personal liaison with internal commercial, technical and business support staff and awareness of general company internal communications.
  • To ensure awareness, understanding and adherence to all Company Policies and Procedures, including Health & Safety, Anti Bribery, ISO-QMS, Financial, Commercial and Operational.
  • To maintain technical and professional job competencies (qualifications, knowledge and personal skills) through continuous development activities including formal training, self-directed learning, use of professional networks, literature reviews etc.
