Forbes Solicitors LLP are seeking an Insurance Solicitor or Associate to join our Industrial Disease claims team at our Manchester office. This is a full‑time role, working 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm. As an Industrial Disease claims Solicitor you will handle a caseload of noise‑induced hearing loss and HAVS files while assisting a partner with high‑value claims including asbestos‑related disease claims. The role demands a fast pace, customer focus, and high standards of a law firm while ensuring a sustainable work‑life balance for the regional area it serves.
Responsibilities
- Manage a varied caseload of Industrial Disease matters, including:
- Noise Induced Hearing Loss
- Hand‑Arm Vibration Syndrome
- Claims for asbestos‑related conditions including mesothelioma
- Asthma
- Dermatitis
- Work‑related stress
- Attend and represent at court/tribunal hearings for a wide variety of hearings
- Provide expert legal advice and strategic guidance to clients
- Maintain profitability and achieve all KPIs including time recording, financial management, and service delivery
- Accurately complete legal tasks and documentation within the Solicitor’s area of expertise, including legal research, drafting, and calculation of financial liability
- Analyse legal matters, assess risks, and determine case strategies
- Negotiate, mediate, or litigate to achieve optimal client outcomes
- Collaborate on complex cases with Senior Associates and Partners
- Deliver exceptional client care and maintain clear, effective communication
- Represent clients in court or liaise with counsel as required
- Ensure compliance with internal and external business requirements including ISO 9001, SRA Principles/Code of Conduct, and court & tribunal deadlines
- Stay current with legal developments through ongoing CPD
- Build positive relationships with current and prospective clients to enhance the firm’s profile and drive business growth
Qualifications
Essential
- Qualified Solicitor or CILEX with 1–5 years PQE
- Experience working in defendant Insurance, primarily within Industrial Disease claims
- Experience conducting advocacy/attending courts or tribunals
- Proven ability to handle own caseload, meet deadlines, and generate fees in accordance with targets
- Experience using legal case‑management systems (e.g. PfW)
- Demonstrated good client‑care skills, providing professional and competent legal advice in line with the SRA Code of Conduct
- Excellent attention to detail, proof‑reading, and editing skills to ensure accuracy and quality of legal documents
- Strong prioritisation, time‑management and multitasking skills to meet deadlines
- Team‑working skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for interacting with clients, colleagues and external parties
- Advanced IT skills and proficiency with multiple platforms such as Word, Excel, Outlook and other case‑management systems/databases
- Alignment with the firm’s values
