Closing date: 20 November 2026

Interview date: 23 November 2026

About the Role: We are seeking an engaging, empathetic, and resilient Female Youth Mentor to deliver targeted support for secondary school-aged girls across partner schools in South West London. This unique intervention blends focused pastoral guidance with creative group engagement across alternating weeks:

  • Week A (1-to-1 Mentoring): Delivering tailored, individual sessions with students who may experience low self-esteem, social anxiety, disengagement, or low-level behavioural challenges.
  • Week B (Group Hair & Beauty Workshops): Facilitating small-group, hands-on hair and beauty sessions used as an engaging vehicle to explore broader topics such as self-worth, peer relationships, body image, and personal boundaries.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver impactful 1-to-1 mentoring sessions that build trust, emotional resilience, and practical coping strategies for adolescent girls.
  • Facilitate small-group hair and beauty workshops, using practical activities to foster peer connection, cooperation, and open discussions.
  • Manage low-level behavioural challenges and attention issues with patience, firm boundaries, and positive reinforcement.
  • Adhere strictly to each school’s safeguarding policies and procedures, making timely disclosures to designated safeguarding leads (DSLs) when appropriate.
  • Liaise effectively with school pastoral staff to align mentoring goals with existing school-level support.

About You:

  • Proven Youth Experience: Experience mentoring, coaching, or working with teenage girls (ages 11–16), particularly those with low-level behavioural issues, emotional barriers, or reluctance to engage.
  • Practical Group Facilitation: Confident leading informal, hands-on group sessions (practical skills or experience in basic hair, styling, skincare, or beauty is essential).
  • Boundaries & Safeguarding: Robust understanding of school safeguarding legislation, confidentiality limits, and professional boundaries.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Natural ability to build rapport without judgment, navigate cliques, and create an inclusive environment for girls from diverse backgrounds.
  • Status: Must be registered as self-employed (or willing to register) and able to travel across South-West London sites during school hours.

Requirements:

  • An Enhanced Child Workforce DBS check on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one prior to start).
  • Relevant qualifications or demonstrable track record in youth work, mentoring, education, pastoral support, or community engagement.
