Company Overview: We are a growing UK-based business delivering specialist services in the renewable energy sector. As we expand, we are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented qualified accountant to manage our day-to-day and strategic financial operations.
Role Overview: This is a hands-on and varied role ideal for a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) looking to work 2β3 days per week. You will oversee core finance functions, maintain our Xero accounting system, and provide accurate, timely reporting to support effective decision-making by management.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Operations & Reporting
- Maintain the Xero accounting system to ensure accurate, up-to-date records
- Raise and send sales invoices; manage credit control and chase outstanding payments
- Manage accounts payable and staff expenses
- Prepare weekly cash flow updates and financial dashboards for management
- Produce monthly management accounts, including commentary and variance analysis
- Support the preparation of annual budgets and rolling forecasts
- Prepare year-end accounts and liaise with external auditors
- Compliance & Governance
- Prepare and submit quarterly VAT returns
- Ensure compliance with UK accounting standards and tax regulations
- Support the preparation of documentation for Companies House and HMRC as required
- Liaise with the companyβs bank and manage relationships with financial institutions
- Payroll & HR Support
- Oversee monthly payroll processing (via external payroll provider if applicable)
- Supervise HR administration including holiday tracking, onboarding, and compliance records
- Manage the company share option Scheme via Vestd
- HR functions
- Health & Safety Compliance
- Recruitment coordinator
- Company Training coordinator
Key Requirements
- Strong working knowledge of Xero
- Experience in preparing management accounts, budgets, forecasts, and audit packs
- Strong experience with payroll, VAT returns, and UK financial compliance
- Highly organised with attention to detail and ability to work independently
- Excellent communication skills and experience reporting to senior management
- Comfortable working in a dynamic, growing SME environment
Hours and Remuneration
- 2 days per week (flexible on working days/times)
- Competitive day rate or pro-rata salary, depending on experience
