Our client is a growing general construction company based in Chester, delivering a range of commercial and industrial projects across the Chester and North Wales area. Their main focus is on quality delivery for key accounts, client satisfaction, and efficient project management. Due to continued success, they are now looking for a driven and versatile QS/Estimator to join their team and take ownership from pricing through to project delivery on site.

The Role:

This is a dual role combining estimating and quantity surveying responsibilities. The ideal candidate will not only be confident in pricing and tendering for new work but also in managing the project through delivery, ensuring profitability and performance standards are met.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for new projects, tenders, and quotations.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Liaise with clients, architects, and suppliers during the tender stage.
  • Produce detailed bills of quantities and take-offs.
  • Negotiate and procure subcontractor packages.
  • Support contract award processes and project start-up.
  • Take projects forward post-award, managing cost control, variations, and valuations.
  • Attend site meetings, oversee site progress, and manage delivery alongside site teams.
  • Work closely with project managers and site operatives to ensure commercial objectives are met.
  • Produce monthly valuations and final accounts.
  • Monitor budgets, identify risks and cost-saving opportunities.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years experience in a similar QS/Estimator role within general construction.
  • Solid understanding of building methods and regulations.
  • Experience in both pre-construction estimating and on-site project delivery.
  • Excellent analytical, numerical, and communication skills.
  • Proficient in estimating software and MS Office (Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites across the region.
  • Strong organisational and multitasking ability.
  • A proactive, solutions-driven mindset.

Desirable:

  • HND/Degree in Quantity Surveying or related discipline.
  • Knowledge of JCT/NEC contracts.
  • Experience with residential, commercial, and refurbishment projects.
