Our mission is to give fans more of the game by building football communities that entertain, inform, and inspire action. We cover everything in football from news and analysis, original reporting, and social media content, to web stores, video, podcasts, newsletters, and live scores. With over 2 billion video views per month, 135 million social followers globally, and a reach of 650 million across web, social, and video platforms, Footballco is the world’s largest football media company and one of the largest digital media companies in sport globally.
About the Role
Footballco is looking for a Head of Development / Executive Producer to lead a new department within the content organisation called the “Footballco Originals” team. This is an exciting opportunity to build and lead the production of mid and longform football video content, primarily for YouTube but also story-led, mid-length, or feature length football films and documentaries for streaming platforms.
You will lead our most premium and high dollar productions, many featuring A-list talent, and work across our video production org (numbering 30+ producers globally) to surface the best ideas and produce them to a high standard. You will work closely with our audience development team to ensure your videos achieve optimal performance across social media and other distribution channels.
The ideal candidate will have experience working with talent and managing multiple video or film projects simultaneously at different stages of development. We are looking for someone with a passion for storytelling first and foremost, who can recognise good ideas and generate new ones. Finally, production expertise is a must.
We need someone who can oversee a project from script to (mobile and TV) screen, including managing contracts with talent, agents, and football rightsholders (clubs, leagues, federations). Prior football experience is not necessary but a willingness to immerse yourself in the game is required. This job will be all football all the time.
This position is based in our London offices where we work (hybrid) 3 days per week.
What you’ll be doing:
- Create video IP that makes us famous with fans and can be commercialised via social platforms, streaming platforms, and/or advertisers.
- Oversee the creative development and production of video projects from pre to post production. Particularly the upper end of our editorial video slate, with more complex shoots, more guests, and more premium styling.
- Work with writers and creatives to refine ideas and provide creative guidance on concepts.
- Lead flagship video output from our family of brands such as Indivisa (women’s football), Mundial (football lifestyle), Goal (men’s football), and more.
- Engage external agencies, bookers, and specialists on a per project basis as needed.
- Build and maintain a network of talent relationships to provide access and IP for our projects.
- Cultivate relationships with major streaming platforms by bringing them with you into the role or having the aptitude to create new relationships and open deal flow.
- Collaborate with the global editorial teams at Footballco (video, social, news desk, creators, contributor network) to harness ideas and talent across our business.
While you do not need to be well versed in every technical aspect of video production, the expectation is that you have one or more deep specialties in directing, writing, cinematography, or more. This is a leadership position in the global content organisation and will report directly to the EVP Content & Operations.
What you have:
- Scripted & unscripted video experience, including experience producing work for a variety of platforms including major streamers.
- Great interpersonal skills and an understanding of how to collaborate closely with high end talent.
- A strong and relevant network of premium contributors (directors, writers, producers) to bring projects to life.
- A team-player able to handle a myriad of responsibilities across a slate of projects.
- A deep understanding of the global content landscape, particularly the SVOD and AVOD space as well as YouTube.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to look ahead in content planning.
- Experience collaborating across departments and countries in complex organisations, as well as operating within a stakeholder matrix.
- Branded content or advertising experience a plus but not required.
- Social media experience a plus but not required.
- Finally, this job is focused on football, so it helps if you have a love for football culture on and off the pitch – apparel, fan culture, music, gaming, etc.
Footballco is proud to be an equal opportunity workplace. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to, and will not be discriminated against based on age, race, gender, colour, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, veteran status, disability or any other protected category.
