Footballco is the world’s biggest dedicated football content and media business, reaching more than 400m football fans across the world each month. With a growing roster of brands including Goal, Voetbalzone, Calciomercato and Spox, we pride ourselves on being experts at creating highly engaging football content for some of the biggest brands in football to help them create authentic connections with fans. This is a 12 month Fixed Term Contract.

What you'll be doing:

  • Proactively source European football stories suitable for the GOAL audience
  • Manage a small team of freelance football writers based in India
  • Write engaging, SEO-friendly headlines in line with GOAL’s house style
  • Assign stories to writers, ensuring they have all the information required
  • Sub-edit and publish content to the highest possible standard
  • Liaise with other GOAL editors and writers to avoid duplication of articles
  • Provide writers with detailed feedback on their work to help them improve
  • Create eye-catching composite images using our photo content creation platform
  • Track writer output and work to ensure staff are hitting individual targets
  • Availability for potential evening and weekend work

What you have:

  • At least three years of experience working in a similar role, ideally within sport
  • Expert knowledge of football and Europe’s big-five leagues in particular
  • Excellent eye for what makes a story and how to sell it to an audience
  • Strong communication skills, maintaining constant dialogue with colleagues
  • Ability to manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Active on social media with an understanding of its importance within football media
  • Ability to write emotive headlines and copy that make our readers feel something
  • Knowledge and understanding of SEO best practices
  • Experience using Getty Images and photo editing software (desirable)
  • Understanding of Google Analytics, Chartbeat and how to monitor traffic (desirable)
