About the role: We currently have a permanent full-time vacancy in our Wigram operations team for an experienced machine operator in our Dry-packing production team. These operations utilise Vertical Form, Fill & Seal (VFFS) bag making machines, along with Pre-made Pouch/Bag packing equipment – supported by data-weigh or auger feeding infrastructure. We are seeking an additional team member to work principally with our VFFS production but also support other operational activities across the site.
Your key accountabilities will include:
- Setting, operation and performance evaluation of production machinery to maximise output and efficiency.
- Consistent commitment to quality - ensuring your own high standards are reflected in the final product off the line.
- Providing training and development to other operators as they learn key aspects of VFFS machine operations.
- Undertaking scheduled preventative maintenance tasks to ensure ongoing reliability of the equipment and aiding our engineering team where needed to maintain successful production output.
- Working alongside our production team and leaders to strive for continuous improvement from our production operations.
Our ideal applicant would possess:
- Solid understanding of Food and Workplace Safety, with a commitment to meeting our high expectations in these areas.
- High level of knowledge & experience with operation of VFFS bag-making machinery, along with multi-head combination weighers.
- Experience with packing and varied weighing equipment used in the food production and processing industry - Auger powder filling, check-weighing, metal detection and coding machinery knowledge would be a definite advantage.
- Ability to work successfully within a team environment, while confident and comfortable in sharing knowledge with others.
- A methodical approach to the operation of production equipment, with some engineering knowledge.
You will need to demonstrate experience in a similar role, along with a proven track record of reliability, and the ability to interpret and execute daily production schedules.
About us: Murdoch Food and Beverage processes and packs a diverse range of food and beverage products for the retail and food service market nationally. A subsidiary of Foodstuffs South Island, our operations are based across two sites; Dry packing and Sauce production plants in Wigram and a Carbonated Beverage plant in Hornby – all supported by a team of around 50 people.

This position is 40 hours per week, with occasional overtime offered in times of additional demand. The plant operates weekdays between 6am and 7pm and the hours of work can be discussed in an interview.
