The FSA works hard to support both the wellbeing of consumers and the animals within the food system. We look to develop policies and interinstitutional dialogues that support this mission and help us keep food safe.

We are looking for a Veterinary Adviser who can support this important work and act as an expert voice within our organisation. This high-profile role sits at the very heart of the FSA's work, offering support not only to policy development but also to the organisation's wider Trade Strategy work.

Communication and stakeholder engagement will play a big role in our success, and you will be able to connect effectively with a wide range of colleagues and external organisations. You will offer your expertise, encourage evidence-based decision making and build long-term professional relationships to support our important work.

You will liaise with colleagues across the FSA to help guide their work, impacting the output of our Science, Evidence and Research Directorate as well as others across the organisation, including the National Food Crime Unit.

As a veterinary expert, you will also work to support our Incidents team as they develop risk management strategies and offer contributions to the resilience of our wider veterinary team. This is an opportunity to work in a high-profile role in a position of leadership within the Veterinary Advisory Services team, while making a real difference to the quality of animal welfare and food safety for consumers across the country.

Please read before applying: This post is a temporary Fixed Term/Loan appointment until 04/12/26 with the possibility, but no guarantee, of extension or permanency. Candidates that are already established Civil Servants or from non-departmental public bodies (NDPBs) will come to the FSA on a Loan basis and will need to request permission from their Home Department for the Loan prior to applying for this vacancy.
