Overview

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) is seeking a Data Quality & Insight Lead to establish and lead a systematic, cross-Operational approach to data management, quality assurance and performance data reporting and insights across the Operations directorate. This role sits within the newly established Operational Excellence function and will work closely with central corporate teams such as the Openness, Data and Digital (ODD) directorate. It includes oversight of the design and development of quality assured KPIs and supports the directorate’s digital transformation for data capture, storage and reporting.

You will work with the Head of Operational Excellence and the leadership team to set strategic direction, develop a multi-disciplinary team, and ensure a consistent, high-quality approach to data modernisation and management across Operations.

You will also help shape and lead the Operational Excellence Hub and drive forwards data quality and digital transformation in Operations data in collaboration with ODD.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and lead a systematic, cross-Operational approach to data management, quality assurance and performance data reporting and insights.
  • Oversee the design and development of quality assured KPIs.
  • Set strategic direction for data modernisation and management across the directorate; establish a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Work with central teams (e.g., ODD) to translate Directorate strategic needs into technical requirements and develop a long-term roadmap towards data maturity.
  • Establish a new reporting and insights function within Operational Excellence, including matrix management of colleagues and direct line management of the Operations Data Lead role.
  • Develop a consistent reporting framework, introduce new reporting technologies and ways of working, and lead the creation of aspirational reporting tools such as a balanced performance scorecard for senior leaders.
  • Ensure strong knowledge of data quality, analysis, operational performance reporting, and stakeholder management in a non-technical environment.
  • Translate between strategic stakeholders and technical leads across the Directorate in a data quality and insight capacity; work autonomously and identify innovative ideas.
