About the role
As a Transport Team Manager at Food Service Logistics (FSL), you will play a key role in leading our transport operation supporting a major customer, Starbucks. You will be responsible for managing drivers, fleet activity and day‑to‑day operations to ensure we consistently meet (and exceed) customer expectations, while maintaining the highest standards of safety, compliance and performance.
Based at our Hemel depot, this is a hands‑on leadership role requiring strong transport knowledge, excellent people management skills, and a proactive, solutions‑focused approach.
Key responsibilities
- Manage the day‑to‑day operation of a fleet of HGV vehicles, ensuring safe, efficient and compliant delivery operations.
- Ensure full compliance with transport legislation, including Operator Licence requirements, drivers’ hours, Working Time Directive and tachograph regulations.
- Oversee fleet administration and associated transport paperwork.
- Monitor and control operational costs, identifying opportunities for efficiency improvements.
- Lead accident and incident reporting, investigation and follow‑up in line with company procedures.
- Conduct effective performance reviews and manage challenging conversations with drivers in a fair and constructive manner.
- Manage employee relations matters, including disciplinary, grievance and absence management, working closely with HR to ensure consistency and compliance.
- Ensure all team members are fully informed and compliant with health & safety policies and safe systems of work.
- Maintain accurate performance reporting and use data to drive continuous improvement.
- Promote a positive team culture and contribute as an active member of the wider management team.

- Proven experience in a transport or logistics management role, ideally within a multi‑drop environment.
- Strong working knowledge of HGV operations and transport compliance.
- Confident and effective people manager with excellent communication skills.
- Experience managing performance, conduct and absence issues.
- Strong understanding of transport management systems and performance reporting.
- Able to investigate vehicle accidents and incidents in line with policy and procedure.
- Proactive, organised and resilient, with the ability to manage operational pressures.
- A team player who embraces collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Up‑to‑date knowledge of transport processes, legislation and best practice.
- A clear commitment to maintaining high standards of health and safety.
