Site Maintenance Engineer – Food Service Logistics
Food Service Logistics (FSL) completes deliveries of chilled and ambient goods across the UK for a well-known brand.
The Role
We are seeking a skilled and proactive Site Maintenance Engineer to join our team at our Hemel Hempstead location. This is an exciting opportunity to maintain a newly built warehouse, ensuring it operates at peak efficiency from day one. This role is crucial in establishing and maintaining operational excellence, safety, and compliance with all relevant regulations in our state-of-the-art facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform regular inspections and maintenance of building systems in our new warehouse, including HVAC, refrigeration plant, electrical, and plumbing systems.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and plumbing issues
- Implement and maintain preventative maintenance programs for new equipment and systems
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations in a modern logistics environment
- Manage relationships with external contractors and vendors
- Respond promptly to emergency maintenance issues, including out-of-hours call-outs
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities and repairs
- Assist in project management for any additional facility upgrades and optimisations
- Conduct electrical testing and ensure all electrical systems meet safety standards
- Perform racking repairs and testing to maintain warehouse safety and efficiency
- Work with warehouse teams and managers to support daily maintenance tasks
- Physical requirements – you must be able to climb ladders, and work at height comfortably.
Qualifications
- Engineering qualifications, Facilities Management, or related field
- Minimum of 5 years experience in industrial or commercial facility maintenance
- Electrical testing qualifications (e.g., City & Guilds 2391 or equivalent)
- Experience in racking repairs and testing – Training will be provided
- The ability to work through problems and identify the best appropriate action plans. Management experience would be desirable.
- Strong knowledge of modern building systems, including refrigeration systems, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, door controls, dock loaders, and Fire alarm systems.
- Familiarity with food safety regulations and OSHA standards
- Excellent problem-solving and organisational skills
- Strong communication abilities, both verbal and written
- Proficiency in using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently and take initiative
- Valid UK driving licence and own vehicle for travel to various sites as needed
- Flexibility to respond to call-outs outside of regular working hours
- Experience and competency of minor vehicle defects and repairs is desirable.
Work Schedule
- Regular hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 to 16:00(37.5 hours per week)
- Must be available for occasional out-of-hours call-outs and emergency responses (anticipated to be less than 5/yr)
Location
- Based in our newly built warehouse in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire
- Some travel to other sites may be required
- Available to start Early December 2024
