An ingredients manufacturing business is seeking to appoint a Business Development Manager in what is a new role, created due to the ongoing success of the business in attracting and retaining a quality portfolio of customers. The Business Development Manager will work from home and will cover a customer base that extends across the UK. This role is open to both established consultative sales professionals and those with extensive technical experience (NPD/Technical) of food manufacturing, who would like to transition to a sales role and utilise their knowledge in a commercial setting.

The Role

  • Consultative sales of Ingredients to Food Manufacturing customers within: Chilled Foods, Meats, Seafood.
  • Acting like a Technical Consultant by providing Technical advice and solutions, rather than just selling a commodity.
  • Work closely with the NPD teams on customer sites, being used as a source of knowledge around product applications and technical capabilities of products.
  • Work on 80% existing Accounts and 20% New business.
  • Focus on nurturing Accounts, building relationships, and becoming a trusted source of information to customers, offering solutions that are commercially sound and credible.
  • Create and maintain an up-to-date CRM system and project pipeline.
  • Over the course of a year, it is likely the Business Development Manager will spend 50% of their time out visiting customers and 50% working from home.

Activities

  • Achieve annual target.
  • Prospect account targeting and appointment setting.
  • Extensive planning and comprehensive coverage within the territory (mainland UK and occasionally Ireland).
  • Agree on and arrange trials, almost acting as an extension of a customers' NPD team.
  • Create professional and technically accurate proposals.
  • Work in partnership with customers to leverage success for all parties.

The Person

  • Extensive understanding of how Food is Manufactured, such as Chilled Foods, Seafood, Meats, Poultry.
  • Tenacious, energetic and positive style/outlook with history of achieving sales goals.
  • May already work for a company selling Ingredients to the Food Manufacturing sector.
  • May not have sales experience but possess technical understanding of Food Production/Development and want to transition into a Sales role.
  • Credible in front of the customer, comfortable having technical conversations with Food Industry professionals.
  • Apply a consultative solutions-based sales approach.
  • Can be based anywhere in the UK, within reason.
