The Dietitian provides specialist, evidence-based nutritional care to all residents, supporting optimal health, wellbeing, and disease prevention. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, this role delivers expert assessment, tailored care planning, and professional advice to ensure residents' nutritional needs are met safely and effectively.

Main duties of the job:

  • Deliver an evidence-based dietetic service for all residents, providing safe, person-centred nutritional care.
  • Assess, diagnose, and manage nutritional problems using clinical, biochemical, and dietary data.
  • Develop and review individual care plans for residents with diverse conditions, including frailty, diabetes, stroke, dysphagia, and palliative care.
  • Promote a food-first approach and advise on oral nutritional supplements (ONS) within ACBS guidance.
  • Liaise with GPs, pharmacists, HEF Teams, and other clinicians to coordinate nutrition plans and prescriptions.
  • Collaborate with the Chef and Hospitality Team to ensure menus meet clinical and dietary needs, including texture-modified diets.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential clinical documentation, charts, and communication systems.
  • Educate staff and teams on nutritional screening, malnutrition, special diets, and food consistency.
  • Conduct monthly weight audits and report findings to the Director of Nursing.
  • Contribute to audits, service improvements, and the development of dietetic resources.
  • Perform any other duties reasonably required to support the nutritional wellbeing of residents.

Person Specification:

  • HCPC-registered Dietitian with a degree in Dietetics or equivalent.
  • Proven experience in a clinical or community dietetic role, ideally in older adult or care settings.
  • Sound knowledge of nutritional assessment, dietetic interventions, and clinical governance.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and teaching skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding, the Mental Capacity Act, and confidentiality.
  • Organised, flexible, and responsive to service priorities.
  • Experience in menu development and texture-modified diets.
