This role is fully dedicated to advancing our Returns product and supporting our existing Returns tax team members. Fonoa Returns reduces errors and manual work in indirect tax compliance by centralising data collection, validation, logic/rules, and draft return generation, providing customers with a single source of truth on the Fonoa platform and minimising manual spreadsheet work. Users gain time back, improve accuracy, increase transparency, and scale with business growth.
Because Returns is integrated across the Fonoa platform, many customers also use it alongside our Tax engine, Digital Reporting, and E-Invoicing solutions.
We are seeking a versatile individual with a solid grounding in VAT/GST and demonstrable tax technology skills. We are open to strong junior candidates (Associate) who show the right skillset, experience, and attitude, as well as Manager-level candidates. You will sit within the Tax team and work closely with Engineering, Product, Design, and Commercial.
We value people who are comfortable experimenting with and implementing workflows (including AI-enabled tools) to accelerate day-to-day tasks and support research, always with appropriate verification, documentation, and respect for data security and confidentiality.
What you will do:
- Support the Returns team on day-to-day operations: country research, return form builds/updates, QA, documentation, and release notes.
- Create and maintain country coverage: map data to schemas, configure logic and validations, and keep forms current with legislative changes.
- Strengthen data quality & reconciliation: contribute to checks that reduce manual work; support exception handling, variance analysis, and audit trails.
- Onboard and support customers: assist with data mapping, testing, walkthroughs; capture feedback and translate it into product improvements.
- Translate tax & market changes into product inputs: monitor legislation and provide clear, actionable requirements to Product/Engineering.
- Enable internal teams: contribute to playbooks, knowledge articles, and materials that clarify 'happy-path' flows and best practices.
- Use modern productivity tools (including AI-enabled assistants where appropriate) to speed up research, first-draft specs/change notes, test data creation, and summarisation of guidance, paired with sound verification and documentation.
- Lead scoped initiatives (e.g., a country pack or reconciliation enhancement), and represent Returns in cross-functional forums.
You will be a great fit if:
- Have practical experience in indirect tax (VAT/GST) and can translate rules/guidance into product requirements.
- Are comfortable with data-driven tax work (field mapping, schemas/CSV/JSON) and defining validation/logic.
- Communicate clearly with both tax and non-tax stakeholders, turning complexity into simple, testable specifications.
- Thrive in a fast-moving, collaborative environment; you are self-directed, curious, and solution-oriented.
- Are comfortable experimenting with and implementing workflows and tools (incl. AI-enabled) to accelerate your work and support research, and you know how to verify outputs, cite sources, and protect sensitive data.
- Full professional proficiency in English, written and spoken.
Preferred:
- Experience in a tax technology development/implementation role, or adjacent data/ops role in a fast-growing international organisation.
- Familiarity with APIs/ERPs/data pipelines (SAP/Oracle/NetSuite, ETL/iPaaS concepts).
- Comfort with issue tracking/versioning and writing clear acceptance criteria.
- Exposure to digital reporting/e-invoicing.
