focusgov are a digital agency working with over forty local authorities throughout the UK. We create digital solutions such as mobile apps, websites and bespoke applications for social care. Our work helps the public sector support vulnerable people such as children in care, families with disabled children, care experienced young people, families who need additional support and adults who are seeking social care.

We are fully remote, our team is based across the UK. We meet up ‘in person’ a few times a year to say hello and make sure everyone recognises everyone; but we are on Teams every day and work closely and collaboratively despite our distances. Our projects and work is governed via our ISO27001 and ISO9001 certified procedures. Work / life balance is important to us, we have in-team mental health first aiders and offer the opportunity to everyone to undertake MHFA training.

We are looking for a Junior Front-End Developer to join our technical team. This is a great opportunity to help us build more innovative digital services in the Tech4Good space. Our tech stack is based around the following: HTML, CSS/SASS, Tailwind, Vue, Git/GitHub, Ruby on Rails. Digital Accessibility (WCAG) is really important to us.

The main responsibility for this role will be to build working and accessible web pages from Figma designs and also work on various support tasks. Over time, we will throw more complicated work your way, and soon you will be taking on larger projects and entire builds, learning from our enthusiastic and experienced team as we go. You will pick up lots of skills and real-world experience across CSS, Tailwind and Vue. We will provide support and training through our culture of internal knowledge sharing and close collaboration.

We are keen to meet people who:

  • are able to demonstrate knowledge and previous use of the ‘core’ tech: HTML and CSS.
  • can build web pages that are responsive.
  • have an understanding of basic web concepts: HTTPS, SSL, API’s, cross-device development etc.
  • can manage multiple tasks at once, not get flustered, can communicate clearly.
  • have a positive attitude and are ready to get stuck into new technologies and skills and eager to learn.
  • are able to work remotely 100% of the time.

Knowledge of accessibility and WCAG would be significant for us as this role is likely to get stuck into some accessibility testing of our apps and websites. Any knowledge or experience of Tailwind and/or Vue would be beneficial.

We are offering:

  • salary dependent on capability; we anticipate a salary between £30k and £35k.
  • private medical insurance with Bupa, employee assistance programme, wellbeing check-ins including support from trained mental health first-aiders, 28 days holiday plus additional close down over Christmas, and birthdays off, NEST pension, lots of opportunity for career progression, learning and development.

Our agency is family-owned and managed and has been trading for over twenty years. We have a culture that is professional but laid back, where people are given the opportunity to thrive without micro-management and where everyone makes a difference and makes their mark. Please note this is a fully remote role and so we are happy to meet candidates from throughout the UK. A full job specification for this role is available on request.

Please no agencies, thank you. Please only apply for this role if you are UK-based, able to work remotely and can meet the criteria detailed above.
