Are you passionate about helping students build confidence, improve their academic performance and achieve their full potential?

Focused Mentoring is looking for enthusiastic, knowledgeable and committed GCSE tutors to join our team. We are seeking tutors who combine strong subject knowledge with a personalised approach to teaching and mentoring, helping students overcome challenges, strengthen their understanding and make meaningful academic progress.

About Focused Mentoring

Focused Mentoring was founded by parents who went through the 11+ journey with their own daughter. Having seen first-hand what makes a real difference, they set out to build a tutoring service that looks at the whole child, not just the exam result.

Our approach is captured in one line: bringing out the best in every child. Alongside strong teaching, we focus on confidence, good study habits and the steady encouragement that helps students keep going when things get difficult.

We work with families across Orpington, Bromley and Kent, offering online and in-person tutoring, mock exams and vocabulary programmes. Having mentored more than 1,000 students and supported over 800 families, we are now extending our personalised approach to GCSE students.

We are looking for tutors who share our belief that every student can thrive with the right support.

About the Role

As a GCSE Tutor and Academic Mentor, you will deliver tailored online support through one-to-one and small-group sessions. You will adapt your teaching to each student's individual learning needs, current ability and academic goals, helping them develop both subject knowledge and the confidence and skills to become more independent learners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver high-quality, engaging online tutoring sessions across your GCSE subject specialisms.
  • Adapt teaching methods and resources to each student's starting point, learning needs and goals.
  • Identify gaps in understanding and provide targeted support to address them.
  • Prepare appropriate learning activities, practice questions and homework.
  • Teach effective revision strategies, exam techniques and study habits.
  • Encourage confidence, motivation and independent learning.
  • Monitor progress, set achievable learning goals and adapt teaching accordingly.
  • Provide constructive feedback and clear updates following lessons.
  • Build positive relationships with students, families and colleagues.
  • Arrive at every session prepared, teach reliably and maintain a supportive, welcoming learning environment.

We welcome applications from tutors specialising in one or more GCSE subjects, including:

What We're Looking For:

  • At least two years' experience in tutoring, teaching or mentoring, ideally at GCSE level.
  • Strong subject knowledge in one or more GCSE subjects, with familiarity with the UK GCSE curriculum and relevant exam board requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build rapport with students and motivate them to succeed.
  • A genuine passion for education, personalised learning and student development.
  • The ability to explain complex concepts clearly and adapt teaching to different learning styles.
  • A reliable, organised and proactive approach to planning, teaching and communicating.
  • An enhanced DBS check, or willingness to obtain one before starting, in line with the role's safeguarding requirements.
  • A relevant degree, teaching qualification or equivalent subject expertise is an advantage.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive pay reflecting subject expertise and experience.
  • Fully remote working, with tutoring sessions delivered online.
  • Flexible scheduling to fit around other commitments, subject to student availability.
  • The opportunity to make a meaningful difference to students' academic progress and confidence.
