At Focus Birmingham, our volunteers play a vital role in supporting people with visual impairments and complex needs to live independently and confidently. We offer a wide range of volunteer roles — some short and flexible, others more regular. Whatever time you can give, there’s a meaningful way to help.
- Telephone Befriender
What you’ll do: Make weekly phone calls to offer companionship, conversation and support to someone who may feel isolated. Time needed: Around 1–2 hours per week (flexible to suit you). Rewards: Boosted confidence, stronger communication and people skills, and a meaningful addition to your CV. “Even one call can bring connection and comfort to someone who needs it.” This is a simple but powerful way to make a genuine difference.
- Activity Volunteer – Social Group
Help facilitate social groups and activities for our service users. You’ll support engagement, encourage participation and help create a welcoming, inclusive environment where people can connect and build confidence. Provide essential behind-the-scenes support to help our services run smoothly. Tasks may include data entry, filing, preparing resources or assisting the team with general office duties.
- Receptionist Volunteer
Be the welcoming face and first point of contact at Focus Birmingham. You’ll greet visitors, answer calls and help create a positive, professional environment for service users and partners.
