Role Summary
Our new Employer Training Consultant role is a high-impact, growth-focused role designed to bridge the gap between regional business challenges, and our exceptional apprenticeship and training solutions. You are not just a salesperson; you are a strategic partner for employers across the region. You will identify, engage, and consult with employers to diagnose skills gaps and design bespoke training packages. Whether it’s a single apprenticeship placement, or a multi-layered corporate training programme, you will ensure that Focus is the training partner of choice to support employers across the South West region.

Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Business Development
- Solution Architecting: Learn about employer’s pain points, and curate hybrid solutions, e.g. combining apprenticeships with bespoke commercial workshops, to solve their specific operational hurdles.
- Relationship Building: Comfortably navigate diverse environments, from building rapport with small business owners, to joining the Marketing and Commercial Director in high-level workforce strategy pitches to C-suite executives.
- Market Intelligence: Contribute to regular market landscape reports to identify emerging industry trends and competitor activity, ensuring Focus Training remains ahead of the curve.
- Relationship & Account Management
- Employer Partnerships: Identify and secure high-quality employer partners who align with our values including commitment to quality training, and learner-first approach.
- Lead Generation & Conversion: Execute disciplined cold outreach and networking activities to secure qualified leads, managing the pipeline through to sign-up.
- Event Leadership: Attend and represent Focus at key local and regional industry events. Collaborate in organizing and hosting proprietary employer events that position us as thought leaders.
- Operational Excellence
- CRM Discipline: Maintain impeccable records in the CRM to ensure lead ownership clarity and seamless handovers between departments.
- KPI Management: Meet and exceed KPIs including lead generation, employer sign-ups and revenue growth, ensuring all activities align with the company’s strategic plan as well as Ofsted EIF guidelines.
- Data-Driven Growth: Use employer feedback and market insights to refine your pitch, feed back to the marketing team to inform their efforts, and contribute to group growth discussions.
- Cultural Leadership: Act as a brand ambassador, demonstrating internal leadership that inspires colleagues and reflects our culture of quality, openness and belonging.
Person Specification
- Experience: Proven track record in B2B consultative sales, ideally within the FE, ITP, or professional training sector.
- Knowledge: Deep understanding of the UK apprenticeship landscape, levy/non-levy funding, and commercial training ROI. Understanding of regional business challenges and how apprenticeships and training solutions can address those challenges and support regional social mobility and economic growth.
- Relationship building and Communication: Exceptional communication skills – able to simplify complex funding for small businesses, as well as present strategic value to larger companies. Able to build rapport and trust with employers of all sizes, maintaining and developing relationships over time.
- Mindset: An ‘Empowerment Partner’ mentality. You look for ways to help a business grow, knowing that our success follows theirs. A growth mindset that contributes to the positive development and maturity of Focus Training’s brand and culture.
